Winner: CLWYD – YOUTH SHEDZ CYMRU: Inclusive safe spaces have been created across North Wales. Founded by Scott Jenkinson who had had a difficult personal journey himself, this project partners with schools, police and local councils to deliver an outstanding programme for young people facing social isolation, mental health struggles, involvement in ASB, homelessness, addiction and exploitation by criminal and county line gangs.
Runner up: LANCASHIRE – ICEPOP: Integrating Communities through Engagement and with Problem Orientated Policing says it all – the Blackpool and Fylde Police Cadets have helped address criminality and ASB in their communities through running programmes leading young people away from crime and giving them purpose and activities.
3rd Place: EAST SUSSEX Project 16 – VAWG: This project involved the Wealden cadet group presenting their findings in schools around violence against women and girls. The audience was 15 – 16 year olds, some of whom were largely ignorant around VAWG, and a positive impact was seen across the board in attitudes and behaviours.
Highly Commended: ISLE OF WIGHT – BAY YOUTH PROJECT: This project challenges antisocial behaviour and has developed an outreach in arts and sports, challenging trending themes. This has helped reduce ASB by nearly 50%.
Highly Commended: MERSEYSIDE – YOUTH SAFE SPACE PROGRAMME: A team of youngsters led by two trained youth staff developed a framework ensuring that an inclusive and non-judgemental environment was available to the Merseyside community preventing ASB.
Highly Commended: SOUTH GLAMORGAN – HEDDLU BACH: A mini-police project that has brough tangible benefits to an area where there were tensions before following the deaths of 2 young e-scooter riders. This has greatly reduced ASB and strengthened community ties.
The Richard Walduck Award: CHESHIRE – KINGSMEAD MINI POLICE: This is awarded by one of National Crimebeat’s biggest benefactors. The Walduck family have supported these awards for many years – this year they thought that this group of Mini-Police from Cheshire were the worthy winners following great community engagement.
